Who We Are

2017 Statement of Faith, Values and Practices

Our Living Expression of Faith,

Values, and Practice

The Spirit of our Faith is Based Upon the Following Principles

Ownership – responsibility for the church and its future is shared by the Senior Pastor, the Church Council, Church Members, and the District Pastor.

Empowerment – our family community members are encouraged and empowered to develop the existing church, future local church branches, and family Local Communities with the guidance and approval of the local Senior Pastor and Church Council.

Spiritual Growth – our family community, through education and service, promotes the spiritual growth of individuals, families and communities through living for the sake of others. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…” (Mark 10:45).

Embracing and Serving Others –our family community is committed to embracing and serving others in spirit and in practice fulfilling the two great commandments from Jesus;

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”  Matthew 22:36-40

Expansion Growth – we recognize God as the author of life and love and the parent of all humanity, and that with God’s grace and love we are capable of achieving our noblest dreams and our highest ideals. We therefore, encourage expansion of healthy communities by embracing all people regardless of ethnicity, religion, culture or race through the “Art of Neighboring”.

Evolving Process – Our family community will continue to evolve and change to meet the developing needs of our community and God’s greater providence.

Checks and Balances – power and responsibility is distributed among the Senior Pastor, the Church Council, Church Members, and the District Pastor.

Our Values

We apply God’s nature of “living for the sake of others” in all relationships within the family: teaching filial piety to children, respect and responsibility to youth, promoting sexual purity before marriage, absolute fidelity and love between marital couples, and unconditional giving as parents. We believe all people are God’s children. Our families reach out beyond race, religion, culture and nationality to bring reconciliation and harmony in our community and to the wider world.

We Live our Faith & Values Through the Following Practices

INSPIRE – Sunday Service is the “Inspire” component of our Church. Through Sunday Service the goal is to create an embracing environment and spiritual renewal for visitors and members on a weekly basis.

EMPOWER – is the element that supports spiritual growth through education and service.  This enables us to deepen our faith and relationship with God and Christ, thus inheriting the power of the True Love of God.

CONNECT – is the element that makes use of the Local Community and Small Group models to provide a place where members and visitors can feel personally connected to each other.  This is where we care for our members’ needs and serve each other with love and joy.

CONTRIBUTE – is where members and visitors can contribute to their own growth through church ministries by volunteering and tithing.

INHERIT – as we conscientiously practice our faith daily, we can inherit the True Love of God within the individual, family, society, nation and the world.

Founded by Rev. & Mrs. Sun Myung Moon

Rev. and Mrs. Moon are known as the True Parents because we believe the loss of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden resulted in the loss of the original parents of humankind.  God sent Jesus, and now Rev. Moon, to earth with a mission to restore the position of the original True Parents of Humankind and resolve the fundamental problems of human life and the universe.  Through the Principles brought by Jesus and Rev. Moon we can restore our originally intended purpose of Creation; living in joy and love with God.

The core teaching of our faith is The Divine Principle.  Through these teachings our love for Jesus and God is deepened and our desire to forgive, love and unite all people of all races, cultures and nationalities is embedded as a way of life.

The legal name of our church is the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (HSA-UWC), known locally as the Northern Virginia Family Church & Learning Center. HSA-UWC is a California 501(c)3 organization (aka/Unification Church), a religious non-profit organization with National Headquarters in New York, New York with ties to the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.  Go to this link to learn more:  http://familyfed.org/
